Let’s Talk Authenticity

What does it really mean to show up as ourselves?

Hey hey, it’s Georgia and Shannon here 💁‍♀️💁‍♀️

This week on the podcast, we’re cracking open a topic that’s close to our hearts (and honestly, kind of scary sometimes): authenticity. What does it really mean to show up as ourselves? And how the heck do we do that without feeling like we’re walking around emotionally naked?

If you’ve ever wondered how to be more “you” without burning out or people-pleasing, this episode is for you.

💡 So... What Is Authenticity, Anyway?

We hear the word authentic a lot - especially on social media. But for us, authenticity isn’t about spilling your guts to every person you meet or turning your trauma into content. It’s about getting honest with yourself. Knowing your values, your boundaries, and what makes you feel aligned.

It’s not a performance - it’s a practice. One that lets you show up without faking it or filtering out the messy parts.

🎙 Vulnerability + Art = Magic (And Maybe Some Sweat)

We’ve been thinking a lot about how vulnerable this podcast thing really is. Hitting “record” and putting yourself out there? Not exactly a walk in the park. But here’s the thing - vulnerability is what makes art powerful. Whether it’s a pod, a poem, or just a heartfelt chat with a friend.

It’s scary. But it’s also the most freeing feeling in the world.

😬 The Fear of Being Seen (Yep, That’s a Thing)

Let’s be honest: being seen for who we really are can feel terrifying. There’s a tension between wanting to be visible and totally fearing judgment. And that’s normal.

The truth is, being authentic often means risking rejection - but it also opens the door to real connection. People can’t love the real you if you’re hiding her, right?

🌱 Still Figuring It Out? SAME.

Here’s your reminder: authenticity is not a destination. It’s not some magical moment where you “arrive” and suddenly have it all figured out. We’re a work in progress - still learning what feels true for us and what doesn’t.

And honestly? That’s the point. It’s supposed to be messy and ever-changing. That’s what makes it real.

✨ Tiny Ways to Be More You (Without Burning Out)

If you’re like, “Cool, but how do I actually practice authenticity?” - we got you. Here are a few gentle ways to start:

  1. Check in with your values
Journal, meditate, voice note yourself - whatever works. Ask:

  • What actually matters to me?

  • If money wasn’t a thing, what would I be doing differently - what would my day look like, what would I be doing, who would I spend time with, what would I be doing less of?

  • Check out more journal prompts from the latest Return to Nature Substack - including:

How can I courageously show up as my authentic self in the places I usually hold back?

August and Imbolc 🌷✨
Thursday 7 August is the celebration of Imbolc (pronounced ee-molck) here in the Southern Hemisphere - the halfway point between the Winter Solstice & the Spring Equinox. Imbolc is the Celtic/Pagan celebration which marks the ending of Winter and beginning sparks of Spring 🌷✨…

  1. Gut checks > people-pleasing
Tune into that inner voice. How does your body feel in certain spaces or with certain people? trying a guided meditation or breathwork on YouTube can also help.

  2. Rest is part of the work
Hustle culture lied to us. You don’t need to be “on” 24/7. Rest is productive & necessary. We cannot think of our best ideas when we are rushing. Try making time where you don’t have to do anything (bonus points if it’s in nature).

👯‍♀️ Find Your People - They’re Out There

Real talk: life gets infinitely better when you stop chasing approval and start finding people who actually get you. Your people will celebrate your weirdness. Let them.

💌 A Little Love Note to Our Younger Selves (And Maybe Yours Too)

To our younger, unsure, figuring-it-out selves: You are not too much. You’re not behind. You’re just growing into who you’re meant to be.

Authenticity might feel scary sometimes - but it’s also your secret weapon. So stay weird, stay curious, and keep showing ups.

We’d love to hear how you’re navigating your own authenticity journey. What’s working? What’s still a struggle? Slide into our DMs or shoot us a message - let’s keep this convo going 💬 www.instagram.com/getittogether_pod
